A Little Bit Of History.
When Sir Isaac Pitman launched his shorthand method in 1837, it quickly became the standard in English-speaking territories and was later praised by Sir Winston Churchill!
In those days, Pitman shorthand was used exclusively by men and this only began to change during the second world war, when women began to take up roles that had previously been performed by men.
That huge social change stuck and today, secretarial work is largely (but not exclusively) seen as a female-dominated career.
None the less, about 20% of our shorthand students are men. They work as journalists, PA's, policemen and we even have a CEO who like to keep his notes unreadable by anyone else!
Why not come and enjoy a free trial of one of our shorthand courses? It would be an hour well spent!
