The Career Value Of An Excel Course.

When people come to visit us at Pitman Training in London (Notting Hill and High Holborn) or in Manchester, for a skills assessment, the Microsoft subject in which most of them are weak is Excel.

This training need appears to be due to two factors. The first is that many students don’t realise what Excel can do and think they have a higher level of knowledge than is actually the case, while the second is simply that many people are frightened of it because of its association with figures.

This is a pity in terms of career development because learning how to use this tool will quickly make an individual more attractive to employers as it is a key productivity tool for so many kinds of jobs.

In fact most companies actively seek candidates who can master Excel whether they are recruiting for bookkeeping, finance, marketing or even administrative services as the programme can be used in almost any operations.

Our quick skills assessment enables us to determine which Excel course is suitable for the student as we have two levels, one for beginners to intermediates and the other for advanced users.

Broadly we are looking to determine whether students require the lower level Excel course which teaches basic spreadsheets, formulae, charts and graphs or whether the more advanced Excel course is more appropriate, to teach pivot tables, macros and more advanced features of the programme.

The great thing about having taken either is that they give individuals the knowledge and more importantly, the confidence to automate repetitive tasks, increasing their productivity and therefore enhancing their value an employer.

At the same time, Excel enables users to provide work with fewer errors and it often gives messages when it is being used incorrectly.

Each programme takes on average 25 hours to complete, allowing plenty of time for practice and consolidation and culminating in an exam.

On passing the exam, a Pitman Training Certificate is issued to the successful student to enable them to prove their value to a company or other organisation.

Working with audio, a computer and high quality training materials, there are no classes as such but students develop their own personal study plan and timetable, visiting the training centre in London and enjoying the support of our friendly, experienced training team.

It’s a convenient way to get an education in any Microsoft software application and most people really benefit from the experience.

Our students come from all walks of life. Some are new to computers while others have been working in offices all their lives.

Some have degrees while others have not had the benefit of a college education.

Our cutting edge training methodology means we can enrol people at any level and we enjoy assisting anyone who has the desire to become more professional in using Excel.

All, however have recognised the need to study as part of their career development and it is the desire to better themselves that unites the students.
