What Does A Legal Secretary Do?
The simple answer is …. lots! That’s why they are so well paid and highly respected.
There is a lot of typing in this job which is why it’s so important to type very fast with great accuracy. You need the speed in order to get through the workload and the accuracy because you don’t want to make mistakes with clients’ documentation.
It’s a high-pressured role, too as everybody wants their work done quickly and to impossible deadlines. One of the big challenges is deciding how to prioritise both the clients’ and your bosses’ demands while the phone is ringing, couriers are delivering and all hell is breaking loose. At first it can be a bit daunting but over time you develop a thick skin and learn to handle it.
Interestingly the one-day Pitman Training Executive PA seminar has material about handling yourself under pressure, dealing with difficult people and managing your boss, so it’s worth taking as an elective or an additional course.
The good thing about the job is that you don’t need to know the law, just the paperwork that underpins it, so it’s truly an administrative role and you can learn all of that at Pitman Training.
We can’t promise it will happen for you but we get quite a number of unadvertised jobs phoned through to us because our qualification is the best known and also because we are located between Lincolns Inn, Staple Inn and Grays Inn in Holborn and in the city centre in Manchester, so we’re at the heart of the law community in both cities.
Barristers, solicitors and recruiters from agencies, law firms (including the magic circle) like our qualifications because they are proof that candidates have demonstrable practical skills to bring to their firms. Pitman trained people can usually be relied upon for quality work right from day one.
We also publicise advertised jobs on our notice boards in all 3 of our training centres to save students time and hassle.
Not A Lot Of People Know This.
Not everybody knows that Pitman Training centres are franchised and that the units in London Notting Hill, London Holborn and Central Manchester are operated by one of the biggest and most successful franchisees, Holborn Training Ltd. The importance of that to students is the peace of mind that comes from knowing that we chose to become a provider of Pitman Training programmes after researching the market for the highest quality courses and qualifications. Equally, we had to go through a rigorous assessment and application process to become Pitman Training franchisees.
We have made a massive investment in being the best and we work hard to ensure that our students get the best from us.
Double Diploma – Legal Secretary & Executive PA.
The flexibility of Pitman Training diplomas means that students can easily earn two diplomas for the price of one if they choose their elective subjects in the right way.
For example, the PA programme requires the student to select 4 “elective” subjects (ie chosen by the student and their course advisor).
If 3 of the 4 electives are legal secretarial subjects, including the introductory module, the student has the opportunity to qualify in both subjects, providing them with two potential career paths. It’s a terrific way to get to the top of the tree! Ask our Course Advisors about it.
