A Fast Way To Learn In London.
While looking for a Microsoft IT Academy training provider in London, I was delighted to find that the Pitman Training centres in London at Notting Hill and High Holborn and also in Manchester have achieved this accreditation.
The reason for my delight was that I am a particular fan of the Pitman Training method, which is self-paced, offering a lot of flexibility in terms of attendance.
Specifically, I was looking for Excel courses as I needed to learn Excel fast for a new job. I had only 2 weeks available to me and I couldn’t afford the leisurely pace of education offered by the local college with its traditional evening classes format.
I had secured a job as a bookkeeper at a medium sized business in London and felt that my spreadsheet skills were underdeveloped.
As part of the job would involve budgeting and forecasting, I knew I would have to learn Excel formulas and if I could learn Excel macros too, I knew I’d look pretty good in my new role.
The problem with most training providers is that they either skim the surface over one or two days or else they take place over an extended basis during an educational term.
Fortunately Pitman Training enables you to start Excel courses at any time and study at times to suit yourself during their long opening hours which include evenings and Saturdays.
At the end of the training, which is quite in-depth and very practical, you take an exam and on passing, you are awarded a nationally recognised Pitman Training certificate.
At the London training centres in Notting Hill and High Holborn and in Manchester, you can also receive a Microsoft IT Academy certificate so effectively you earn two qualifications for the price of one.
It would have been better if I had had such a certificate when I was applying for my new job but I was working at the time and didn’t think about it beforehand.
Still, I’ll get both qualifications now so my new employer will be impressed by my diligence during my pre-joining time off.
In fact, I’m going to take two Excel courses at Pitman Training because I want to go from the beginning with one of them, learning the basics including learning Excel formulas which I’ll use for my cash flows and then moving on to the advanced course where I’ll be learning about using Excel as a database as well as pivot tables and macros.
The guys at Pitman Training reckon it will take me about 60 hours to become really good at all these topics and loads more, so that should see me working very intensively for the next 2 weeks.
Even if I don’t quite complete my studies, I can always go back in the evenings or weekends as you have up to 3 months to complete your course.
Hopefully I won’t have to as I really want to practice with real data from my new job so that I can really impress them.
Anyway, I’m starting at Pitman Training this afternoon, so we’ll soon see!
